Filigree
consists of gold or silver threads joined together and soldered masterfully with great
patience and thoroughness to shape a perfect and delicate piece. It can be combined with
other silver-working techniques that make use of inlays of precious and semi- precious
stones. Turquoise. malachite, lapislazuli, onyx, rose quartz and black quartz inlays do
much to set off filigree works.
Using the filigree technique, generally handed down from father to son, Peruvian
craftsmen have fashioned: necklaces, chokers, earrings, bracelets, pins, chains, crosses, rosaries, medals, baskets,
various-shaped boxes, jewelry chests, coffers,
pill boxes, letters, key chains, letter openers, paperweights, pens, silverware, napkin holders, brackets,
reliquaries, and parts of nativity scenes and religious images. They also produce
miniature churches, Mexican turkeys, Indian peacocks, Peruvian paso horses, bulls, fighting cocks, llamas, deer,
birds, butterflies, flowers, sprigs, trees, fruits, boats, horse-drawn carriages, vintage
cars, airplanes, helicopters, gods and characters from each region.
As you may know, peruvian silver is guaranteed 925/1000 purity silver.
